Ajman University Reign over First Position for 7th Year in a Row at IEEE
For the seventh consecutive year, Ajman University of Science and Technology won the maximum number of prizes at the IEEE UAE Student Day competition. This year they won 9 awards, which is a record in the history of IEEE UAE Student Day, they achieved this by breaking their own record set in 2012 of being the only University to achieve 8 awards.
The 11th IEEE UAE Student Day was held on May 21, 2016 in Abu Dhabi Campus of Al-Ain University of Science & Technology. This is an annual event which witnesses participation from all major universities across the UAE. This year 13 UAE universities participated. There were total 69 student projects divided into six categories namely Common Design Project, Engineering Design Project, Industrial Design Project, Software Engineering Project, Senior Design Project, and Community Service Project.
Among the 9 awards, five were first position prizes, two second position prizes and two third position prizes. The first-position prizes were in Common Design Project, Engineering Design Project, Industrial Design Project, Senior Design Project (Electronics/Communication), and Community Service Project. The second-position prizes were in Engineering Design Project and Community Service Project. The third-position prizes were in Common Design Project and Software Engineering Project.
Professor Fahar Hayati, Dean, College of Engineering, Prof. Mustahsan Mir, Head, Electrical Engineering Department and AUST IEEE Student Branch Counselor, Dr. Ayman Tawfik, all congratulated the students for their extraordinary performance. Prof. Mustahsan Mir mentioned that consistently winning the maximum number of prizes for seven consecutive years demonstrates the high-quality education provided at Ajman University. It also shows strong emphasis on developing variety of skills for engineering students.
Prof. Fahar Hayati commended the students’ relentless efforts at achieving the awards and excelling in all the fields of engineering and technology. During this semester alone, the students have been securing positions and awards all across the UAE and this instills in them an encouragement and a spirit of achievement.
