Hybrid: Design and Culture Workshop

The Departments of Interior Design and Architecture in the College of Engineering at Ajman University of Science & Technology organized a unique workshop. This one-off workshop entailed the visit of a German delegation of Students and Faculty from Damstard University of Applied Sciences who jointly worked on a project along with students and faculty from Ajman University.

Aptly titled, Hybrid- Design and Culture the primary aim of the workshop was to design Kiosk units which are dual in purpose that is for viewing pleasure and as a business unit. The place chosen for this purpose was the beautiful coastline of Ajman Corniche. The students both from German University and Ajman together worked on marrying both the German and Emarati Culture with design.

Integrating the Deigns and Culture yielded an exceptional project which was designed from scratch, encompassing its architecture to the interiors. The delegation before commencing the 3 day workshop at Ajman University had a chance to visit Bastakiya in Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Masdar City in Abu Dhabi. They were amazed by the use of alternative energy and sustainable environment at Masdar city and the evolvement of architecture over the years in UAE.

On his part Dr. Fahr Hayati, Dean, College of Engineering stressed that Ajman University spares no effort at ensuring our students get their best of knowledge and practice. Such collaborative workshops facilitate the exchange of experience and expertise the 18 students from Ajman Campus and the 10 German students worked on a project which is an ideal fusion of German and Emarati Cultural Elements into the Design.
