AUST to Host 9th IEEE UAE Student Day
Ajman University of Science & Technology is all set to welcome the 9th session of the IEEE Student Day at its main campus on Saturday, 10th May 2014. IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world’s largest technical professional association.
The IEEE UAE Day is an annual event in which all major universities in the UAE participate. This prestigious event is organized by IEEE UAE Section with active support from IEEE Student Branch Counselors from all participating institutions. The first-ever event was held at the American University of Sharjah in 2006 and the latest (8th) was hosted by the University of Sharjah in May 2013.
The event aims to encourage the culture and spirit of competition among students hailing from leading universities and colleges of the UAE. It also recognizes the outstanding achievements of IEEE member students, whilst providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, experiences and expertise amongst the member students based in UAE. This event also has the multifold purpose of developing the leadership qualities of IEEE students and shining the spotlight on IEEE so as to raise the awareness of the general public about it.
The expected number of participating students and members is 320, in addition to faculty members attending as project supervisors or jury members. Usually the number of juries is 30 or more. Furthermore, to organize this event a number of IEEE student members from the host institution contribute as volunteers.
Engineering, IT, and Computer Science students from all major educational institutions will compete for 15 prizes in the following five categories of projects:
- Common Design Project
- Engineering Design Project
- Senior Design Project
- Software Engineering Project
- Community Service Project
About IEEE: Association of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE ) Was founded 128 years ago, and is headquartered in New York, USA, and has more than half a million members spread across the world. The UAE Chapter was founded in 1987, it encompasses the Middle East, Europe and North Africa.
UAE student day was earlier held today at many universities in the country during the past years, including the Sharjah University, Khalifa University and the American University of Dubai.
